Your Ford Was Made Comfotable by Plastic!

Ford has been known to incorporate lots of recycled waste into their products but now you can become apart of the process! Ford uses a variety of nonmetal recycled and biobased materials both inside and outside their vehicles and the new 2013 Fusion Hybrid, Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid and 2012 Focus Electric are no exceptions! Unifi's REPREVE brand of recycled fibers are used in almost every inch of these Fords! REPREVE is made from a hybrid blend of post consumer waste and post industrial waste. The interior seating of the Focus Electric even has about 22 recycled plastic bottles worked in the mix and nearly 42 in the Fusion hybrid! These water bottles are made of PET-polyethylene terephthalate, which is just a fancy name for plastic.

Now Unifi and Ford are working together to help set up plastic bottle collection points within Ford stores to help collect bottles for some more comfy Ford seats. These bottles will be part of the other 2 million being recycled for the fabrics inside the Fusion and Focus Electric in their first model years! When you buy one of these vehicles you can also give back to Eco-charities! The REPREVE Give Back programs helps your choice of either Keep America Beautiful, Conservation Alliance, American Rivers of Rocky Mountain Institute charities.

They look so similar you wouldn't guess that this one Candy Blue Focus has zero-emission and runs on battery power. This Ford Focus even keeps its cool without the weird futuristic shape and funky name!

This Ford sports an all new front grille, a more aerodynamic front fascia, special badges and 17 inch wheels. Inside…

Why is there coconut in my Ford?

Odd building materials in vehicles may sound quirky and clever, but the process is nothing new, and is all about doing good for the environment. For example, did you know recycled blue jeans - the cotton, that is - are used in the 2012 Ford Focus as sound absorption to keep the interior quiet? Or that whenever possible, Ford has used soy foam for seat cushions, castor oil foam in instrument panels and even recycled carpet on?
