Did you know that there are plants inside the doors of your Ford Escape? Ford has made an effort to make cars more sustainable, and this includes stuffing your doors with bolster which is essentially from the kenaf plant.
Kenaf is originally from Asia, its looks similar to Bamboo although it is related to cotton. When it is used in the Escape it acts to replace oil-based materials that were once used inside the door. By replacing these oil-based materials it's estimated to offset 300,000 pounds of resin per year here in North America. This eco-friendly material also reduces the weight of the door by 25% which will then result in fuel savings.
The new eco-friendly Escape will be available this spring. There are also many other materials inside this Ford that are recycled, renewable and that reduce impact on the environment. Some of these materials include soy foam in the seats, plastic bottles in the carpet and more than ten pounds of scrap cotton from old Jeans. This new Escape meets the USCAR Vehicle Recycling Partnership goal in that 85% of the vehicle is recyclable.
